Disease Impact and Symptom Measurement
Mandate

Role
Concept, Illustration and Design
Goal: Illustrate both the heterogeneous neurological disease impacts, and the methods of disease symptom measurement while ensuring the human experience remains visible—behind the scientific information is a patient living with the condition.
Audience: Scientific researchers, clinicians, neurologists
Solution: Since the disease has impacts from the cellular level to the whole body level, we used a visual progression starting at the microscope and ending at the human. The disease impact information was separated from the disease symptom information by inserting the visual representations in the middle. Consistent red highlights indicated the impacted areas. The face was deliberately chosen as the final image to show the psychiatric manifestations and death, and to elicit connection and empathy for the patient experience.
